OK Foodies - What have we got to look forward to?
I love food. I love cooking it, eating it, eating out, watching food shows, reading the Sunday glossies, salivating over the Waitrose monthly food magazine, farmers markets... Oh and Wholefoods, this place just fills me with joy and empties my pockets. But most importantly, food festivals. Lots of food, freebies, cooking demo's, lashings of yummy booze and then as a result of the aforementioned... lots of happy people with happy tummies. The perfect day out. Just try and keep me away.
What’s happened to dating?
Dating in your 30-40’s is a minefield. It’s like constantly interviewing for a job you’re not quite sure you want. Riddled with practicalities balancing kids/work/geography/ex’s. A kind of dating Groundhog Day...
“The book to read is not the one that thinks for you but the one which makes you think.” ― Harper Lee
Some of the joys of being a book fan and seeing other people in cafes, commuting, sitting in a park and reading a book, it’s like a book recommending a person. I found this to be the case with Becoming, which sparked so many conversations with strangers. Which is also the main concept of Matt Hopwood’s ‘Mother’ and yet paradoxically Amanda Robson’s Psychological thrillers ‘Obsession’ & her new novel ‘Envy’ are most definitely not in the sharing spirit!
Khao Lak - Paradise with WiFi
Khao Lak is a town 1 hour drive from Phuket airport, away from the busy bustle and student backpackers. Surrounded by rustic and yet beautiful virtually untouched beaches, 20 minutes away from jungle treks to waterfalls and market towns that aren’t completely devoid of tradition.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
- Hazel Butterfield
- 21 February 2019
Another year, another great list of women to wax lyrical about. That enough is a magnificent excuse to get excited about International Women's day, even though 1 day clearly isn't enough! But if it's good enough for mothers and birthdays, so be it.
“I’ll read my books and I’ll drink coffee and I’ll listen to music, and I’ll bolt the door." - J D Salinger
I hope you enjoy reading about the latest books I’ve read and loved. It’s great to support those starting out in the publishing world and ‘What’s Left Unsaid’, ‘The Missing Activist’ and ‘Whirlspools, yoga and the meaning of life’ are great examples of incredible talent emerging into the literary world. Get involved and lose yourself in great books...
