If you’re looking for a place that’s equal parts chill, cheeky, and surprisingly fabulous—Albania might just be your next obsession. I went with zero expectations and came back with a tan, a new appreciation for Balkan beats, and a story involving a stranger buying me an ice cream. Let’s unpack.

If Copenhagen were a cocktail, it’d be a smoky Negroni with a twist of elderflower—unexpected, stylish, and just a little bit cheeky.
Can 'mind over matter' be manipulated?

We can manage to convince ourselves of many things, sometimes we need it to ease our sanity and at other times because ignorance is bliss. There is a notion of safety in knowledge, as is thinking we are potentially doing better than we actually are. This isn't always a bad thing. Without sounding too airy fairy, when you believe something is happening or can happen, the positivity works better than any pessimistic thoughts - our minds work better.

We all use our phones. A lot. Mainly for everyday things such as emails, texts, work and news but it also becomes almost a crutch to alleviate feelings of loneliness and to conquer our fears of ‘missing out’, especially now as the world starts to re-open. We constantly have our phones in our hands. They have become our friends. They are always there for us.

Choice - Is it putting us in a state of 'Decision Overload'?

It's a double-edged sword. Who doesn't want choice, variety and freedom to stray away from the norm and be able to try new things? Yet, we may scoff at the dear old neighbour who enjoys the good ol' days when life was all set out for you. Less decisions to make, straightforward. BUT no brain overload.

It’s cold, we’re skint anticipating Christmas/party season and the pre-winter bugs are making the rounds. It’s time to grab the blankets, get a good bottle of red, turn up the heating (it’s time), cuddle your dog (cats and hot water bottles also work) and get stuck into a good book.

There are many reasons that I have reading and writing as a top priority in my life. Writing for a start is cathartic and allows me to unjumble what is going on in my head and share with others something that hopefully may help them or even entertain them. Reading is a chance to escape, learn something new, increase empathy, be a distraction and/or keep you off tech!

It's no great secret that we get drained, nor is it purely a select few. Being drained or frazzled affects some people more than others, but quite frankly, some just have more tried and tested coping methods. Behind the deliciously annoying woman who looks 'together' is a control freak who is probably managing their 'Frazzledom' down to the last process.

Oh and Wholefoods, this place just fills me with joy and empties my pockets. But most importantly, food festivals.
Some of the joys of being a book fan and seeing other people in cafes, commuting, sitting in a park and reading a book, it’s like a book recommending a person. I found this to be the case with Becoming, which sparked so many conversations with strangers. Which is also the main concept of Matt Hopwood’s ‘Mother’ and yet paradoxically Amanda Robson’s Psychological thrillers ‘Obsession’ & her new novel ‘Envy’ are most definitely not in the sharing spirit!

Sometimes they say, stick to what you know. I know a delightful amount about hangovers (through extensive research). Some people struggle more than others and have tried and tested a variety of methods. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be open to alternatives or maybe even willing to add to your current strategy. It’s a mixture of being overwhelmed, not feeling in control of our emotional state and lacking our usual ‘joie de vivre’. It comes in fits and spurts and appears to have no rational reason.

I have a few things that I get very excited about, but undeniably, tall buildings are really big on my list. It's a rarity that I go to a city/country and not go up any of the buildings on the Tallest Buildings List. In fact they don't even have to be on the list, a good view and a cocktail oppo and that's me sold. There's just something about being up there and watching the world below from a unique birdseye view, taking in the vastness of city skylines, the squillions of windows, buildings mid-construction, all of it. I love it.

It’s been a while since my last selection of book reviews, life really can run away with you sometimes and finding time to just sit there and read can feel too indulgent or not a priority. But reading can take you on a journey that you sometimes need to get you through, give you escape or just make you giggle.

It is getting harder, it's true what they say once you get in your 30's. But not necessarily a biological occurrence, more a lack of perseverance, energy and a devotion to a cause when other priorities over-rule. Regardless, I'm gonna make a 'concerted' effort. I am.

There's lashings of feel good telly, Christmas Markets, excitable children, bribery to keep said children in check, the lights being turned on, shopping, every excuse to drink mulled wine, a treat everyday (thank you Beauty Calendars!), food, more food and then a bit more food to go on the side of the previous food.

We are told not to obsess about it, but it is not always that clear cut. The next fad, what's on trend is just another way to try and figure out what makes us feel good.

We can manage to convince ourselves of many things, sometimes we need it to ease our sanity and others, because ignorance is bliss. There is a notion of safety in knowledge, as is thinking we are potentially doing better then we actually are. This isn't always a bad thing. Without sounding too airy fairy, when you believe something is happening or can happen, the positivity works better than any pessimistic thoughts - our minds work better.

My quest for freebies... High-end beauty on a budget.

I was brought up quite frugally and yet I love the nicer things in life. But where there is a will, there is a way. Holidays, clothes, booze, massages - you name it. So when it comes to needing some new beauty products, there are one of a few things that need to happen first...

I know this little place... Harris + Hoole

Harris + Hoole, a Tesco affiliated chain of cafes in the Greater London area that seem to have just found a gap in the cafe market. Imagine that!? Considering how many of them there are! Their rustic, eclectic decor offers areas to suit a variety of people which you rarely see in the likes of Starbucks. Dogs, kids, WFH's are all welcome and it just works.

It's virtually impossible to walk through an M&S or Wholefood's without encountering it. Pinterest is all over it. It's healthy, it's versatile and now, as with anything so fundamental in a variety of healthy dishes... It has evolved.

Fashion. I love it, but I love it my way.

I have an interesting relationship with fashion. I love it but am not a slave to it. My mood can be determined by my outfit. What I wear can determine what confidence I have in a given circumstance. I also think that what someone wears can tell a lot about a person. Not in the way that it can determine how 'with it' they are or how loaded they must be. It's to do with how people carry them selves, their creativity, individuality and what is perceived as their priorities.

But most importantly, food festivals. Food. Lots of it, freebies, cooking demo's, lashings of yummy booze and then as a result of the aforementioned... lots of happy people with happy tummies. The perfect day out. Just try and keep me away.

I love London, that's why I'm here, but there's still a place in my heart for West Yorkshire.
Due to a rather daft incident, one found herself in a position that stopped me from partaking in any 'real' exercise for a few weeks. I've been hitting the gym or getting stuck into a good outdoor workout 4-5 times a week for over 10 years. That includes sticking to it until the day I actually went into hospital to give birth to my 2 children and was back to it within days. It's fair to say, I love it, need it and have found ways of fitting it in to my life that just works.

They are a talking point among friends, dominate social media #Netflix&chill and are responsible for hours of lost afternoons and serve as hangover fodder. They create such an enthusiastic passion in people and now, none of that waiting next week to see what happens in Desperate Housewives (or on occasion being able to watch E4 for the next one). Now we can watch the whole season as and when we choose. It's convenient, addictive and fits in with our impatient need to not wait a whole week for another measly hour. WTF, that is soooo 2012. So here are my top 5. Agree, disagree or maybe you're not even reading this properly because your watching Making A Murderer... Oh crap, let's make it my top 6.

They always say that you get serious and have more or a mature and calm outlook on life in your 30's. That you know what is more important. Your priorities are more rational and focused. With claims of "Ooh I'd never go back to my 20's, but if only I could tell my 20-something self what I know now".
I have a few 'things' that I get very excited about, but undeniably, tall buildings are really big on my list. It's a rarity that I go to a city/country and not go up any of the buildings on the list. In fact they don't even have to be on the list, a good view and a cocktail oppo and that's me sold.

There's just something about being up there and watching the world below from a unique birdseye view and taking in the vastness of city skylines, the squillions of windows, buildings mid-construction, all of it. I love it.

I've cleansed, toned and moisturised since I was 12 and since the serum takeover (10 years ago-ish) I haven't gone without one of those little beauts either. I lather my body in lotion at least once a day and make my own body scrubs.

I'm not saying you're not happy, maybe I'm just sharing a couple of the things that make me tick or for some, this serves as a reminder to turn that frown upside down.

Recent research has shown that our emotional state has a huge effect on how we look and how healthy our skin is. Cortisol is a bitch and affects anything from bloating to pimples. Laughter can give us an ab workout (this is not strictly true but doesn't do us any harm). Happy people attract happy people. Negativity rarely breeds success.

To some, running is just something 'other people' do. Maybe it just doesn't float your boat. The idea of pounding the streets in full view of everyone or knowing that when you are done and exhausted, you may not be where you want to be (as in home!) To others it is a like a need, escape and exercise. It is also a very relatively cheap way of getting incredibly fit.

Let's make a plan for the New Year - 2016 here we come!!

As a new year arrives, many of us vow to do things differently. Whether that's for the better or not! A New Year symbolises a time for a new you, new practices, health kicks, better behaviour (maybe not!).

Hazel's Top Books to get stuck into in 2016.

As the New Year dawns on us, we need a good reason to stay in and get stuck in to a good book to keep us out of the bars, shops, off the online shopping world and get the brain box working. We can't just watch Christmas movies all year round! Well, we can but that would be daft.

Top 10 Christmas Movies - In my opinion. 2015

Every Christmas Eve in the Butterfield household we have a movie and luscious food night with one of my best friends and her bloke. We then get a tad tipsy and stage a Santa break in for the kids. Dress up, take photos of catching him in the act nicking a shot of baileys, eating his treats left out by the kids, using the loo etc.. Then excitedly show the kids in the morning. It's a tradition, it works for us and we like it. A week before we democratically decide on the chosen movie, last year was The Holiday, this year we are still amidst our selection process.

So as the end of the year draws near its time for me to reflect on the best parts of 2015...

This year has been crazy in so many different ways. There are the obvious atrocities, but the strength of anyone and any community is the ability to see what is good and positive rather than dwelling on pessimism. A year can fly by and it's nice to have a good old reflect on the craziness that can be life. So here it is, the highlights according to me. Sharing is caring.

Grape Molasses - An accidental find that has forced me to discover it's many qualities.

So I have this amazing Turkish place that I regularly go to and quite frankly what they can do with a simple onion and pomegranate molasses is delicious. So I have been a molasses fan for some time and had tracked it down, although this was about 2 years ago and since then it has been easy to get hold of, even in your local M&S. But.... On the usual online order a few months ago, they had run out and the men in blue had sent Grape Molasses as an alternative which I accepted and duly left in the cupboard, until now.
